You're not going to shower? Our marriage is over

An Egyptian couple have highlighted the reason why a speedy courtship isn't always such a good idea

An Egyptian couple have highlighted the reason why a speedy courtship isn't always such a good idea.

Yara Saad Al-Din and Aysar Ali meet on an airplane and two weeks later they were engaged. They tied the knot two months ago but their happy union has fallen into disrepair because Mr Ali is refusing to wash.

The 31-year-old admitted to his new bride that he has not showered once during the eight weeks of their marriage, reportedly due to a skin condition that means he is allergic to water.

As a result of his poor hygiene, Ms Saad Al-Din, 23, has asked him for a divorce, AlArabiya.net reports.

A doctor confirmed that Mr Ali has a skin condition but said that it is nothing to do with water. He refused his wife a divorce so she filed for Khol'a. This is an arrangement within Islam which grants a woman a divorce if she renounces some of her financial rights.

Around 12,000 Khol'a cases are filed in Egypt every year.
