Wedding day 'happiest' ever for divorced Duchess

Sarah Ferguson has revealed that the "happiest day of [her] life" was the day she got married

Sarah Ferguson has revealed that the "happiest day of [her] life" was the day she got married.

The Duchess of York wed Prince Andrew, who she has known since childhood, in 1986 at Westminster Abbey.

Speaking to Canada's Toronto Sun newspaper, she said: "I married the best prince of all, the best-looking, that's for sure. It was such a great day, it was the happiest day of my life."

Sarah and Andrew have two children together, Beatrice and Eugenie, and despite their divorce in 1996 the pair have maintained a good relationship.

The 47-year-old added: "He may be my ex-husband but he's still the finest man there is and the finest gentleman.

"Because we're divorced, everybody thinks you have to be at each other's throats. Well, news alert. You don't. In our case, it was more circumstances that split us up rather than the heart hurting."

"So then you're saying, 'Why aren't we back together' and my answer would be because we're happy the way things are."
