An American comedienne has published a book that suggests the secret to a long and happy marriage is for the husband to be a chap who isn't going to win any pin-up of the year competitions.
As divorce rates are steadily creeping up in various corners of the globe, Mary R Butler's book, published under the guise of her character Mama Peavy, advises women that a good way to ensure that your marriage will not end in divorce is to choose a mate who will be extremely devoted to you - and according to Mama Peavy unattractive men are certainly that.
The humorous book, entitled 'Women, It's OK to Marry an Ugly Man' advises ladies that a man who is not good looking will "do everything in his power to make and keep his mate happy" and that women who marry such men will be happier in return.
Mama Peavy's book lists five reasons why a woman should consider marrying an ugly man, suggesting that it will benefit both husband and wife as the man will have companionship and friendship while the woman will get a doting partner.
"An ugly man may not be your idea of Prince Charming but they are the next best thing," said Mama Peavy.
The character Mama Peavy is a minister that founded a church for single women called the Tabernacle of Sorrow.
