Many people want to start a new relationship after divorce, although they are not always certain how to go about it

Many people want to start a new relationship after divorce, although they are not always certain how to go about it. However, it seems that having a mobile phone is definitely a step in the right direction.

According to a recent study of 2,000 adults conducted by uSwitch, an increasing number of people are sending flirtatious text messages to prospective partners with 235 million flirty texts sent every month.

'Flexting', as it has been dubbed, costs around £3 billion a year or £231 million a month with £9 million of this spent on arranging a first date. Interestingly, the study revealed that one million Brits have sent a text message that they later wish they hadn't, while almost six million have been dumped via text.

In terms of 'flext' etiquette, 5.5 million people said that they find text kisses and smiley faces "a big turn off".

Steve Weller, head of communications services at uSwitch.com, commented: "Such is the joy of text that we are now dependent on our phones for every aspect of our lives, even our love lives. We all know that text messaging is popular, but we never knew so much flirting is going on. With 235 million texts flying about each month it seems texts are the new arrows to Cupid's bow."
