A Vietnamese man has been arrested after he stabbed his estranged wife as they prepared to enter a divorce court.

Le The Manh attacked his 21-year-old spouse old Le Thi Cuc on Wednesday (June 6th) outside the court in central Vietnam, stabbing her in the back and the stomach, the Associated Press reports.

According to district police chief Tran Van Tung, Mr Manh quickly left the scene on his motorbike, but he was apprehended by police from the Quang Binh province in a nearby village some three hours later. The local media has suggested that Mr Manh, 27, after he accused his wife of three years of having extramarital affairs. It is thought that his suspicions led to Ms Cuc filing for divorce.

She was described as being in a serious condition last night (Thursday) and was being treated in a hospital in Quang Binh, located approximately 500 kilometers (310 miles) south of Hanoi. Police chief Tung did not comment on Mr Mahn's possible motive for the attack.ADNFCR-988-ID-18173727-ADNFCR
