A woman who is set to take a substantial slice of her fourth husband's personal fortune as part of her divorce settlement has been branded a "career divorcee" by her soon-to-be ex-spouse.
Susan Crossley has cited "infidelity" as the reason behind her failed 14-month marriage to millionaire Stuart Crossley, 62. The couple separated in August this year and they had signed a pre-nuptial agreement which limited the amount of money Mrs Crossley would have been awarded.
However, she cited the fact that at the time of signing she had no idea that her estranged husband had offshore bank accounts which hold tens of millions of pounds as reason to declare the agreement invalid.
The divorce became increasingly acrimonious and eventually went to the court of appeal. Mr Crossley then declared that he was "upset the marriage had failed", adding: "Sadly, my wife is a career divorcee."
Mrs Crossley has hit back, saying she has only made a substantial sum of money from one of her failed marriages.
In a statement, she said: "I would like to set the record straight. I gather the fuss is because a judge has created a legal precedent regarding pre-nuptial agreements. Obviously I had no desire or intention to become part of such a controversy. I simply want my marriage to Stuart Crossley over.
"It was a very unhappy marriage made more horrid by his admitted infidelity. I do want items of mine in his possession returned to me but I am not a 'career divorcee'.
"I want an end to any relationship with Stuart Crossley and hope never to see him again. A day in court next year will suit me fine as long as it ends this horrible marriage. I shall make no further public comment."
