Photographer 'announces' George Clooney's engagement

Rumours were circulating last weekend that US actor George Clooney was engaged after a photographer accidentally referred to his long-term girlfriend Sarah Larson as his "fiancee".

The Ocean's 13 star had posed for pictures at the Dubai International Film Festival with Larson and she was referred to as his bride-to-be, which sparked speculation that they were going to get married, and also that they had secretly become husband and wife while in the Middle East.

However, Clooney has denied the suggestions and confirmed that they pair are not planning to wed. A spokesperson for the 46-year-old called the photographer's actions "a mistake".

It seems that he has more pressing matters at hand, namely promoting the need for aid in Darfur, the war-torn region of the Sudan.

In an interview with USA today, he revealed that he is using his celebrity status to "draw attention" to the cause.

"We're going to try to get deeper into Darfur, try to get some cameras in to the tougher camps and have conversations. That's basically all I can do. If you put famous people in front of very ugly sites, people will watch," he said.
