Over half of married couples unhappy

An alarming number of people have admitted that they are in an unhappy marriage.

According to a new study of 2,000 Brits conducted by solicitors Seddons, 59 per cent of wives are only still married to their husbands because they are worried about coping emotionally and financially on their own.

The research, seen by the Daily Mail, also found that 51 per cent of husbands considered their marriages to be loveless.

In total, 12 per cent of the respondents said that they considered themselves to be in a loveless relationship, while 35 per cent predicting that their marriage would shortly take a turn for the worse.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesman for Relate said: "It's so easy for married couples to get stuck in a rut once the realities of paying the bills and getting the children's breakfast sets in.

"Relationships inevitably change over time. Couples who address their problems and talk to each other when they feel they may be taken for granted stand a better chance of pulling through."
