As the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a commemorative service at Westminster Abbey yesterday (Monday, November 19th), over 100 couples from Hampshire had a special ceremony of their own.
Each of the couples had also been married for 60 years and the diamond wedding anniversary service was held at the beautiful Winchester Cathedral to celebrate their romantic achievement as well as the royal couple's.
The Queen was represented by Mary Fagan, Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, and the service was led by the Bishop of Winchester, the Southern Daily Echo reports.
It featured a series of hymns and Bible readings as well as a regal fanfare by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Army Cadet Force Band. The touching event was concluded by a rendition of the national anthem, God Save the Queen.
The Queen and Prince Philip exchanged vows on November 20, 1947 at Westminster Abbey.
