Grandparents are often a very good source of wisdom, and as such it may be of interest for many to hear that a new book has been launched which is aimed at grandparents whose grandchildren are going through a divorce.
Entitled Dear Sammie: A Letter to a Grandchild of Divorcing Parents, the tome is intended for young children whose parents are going through a marital separation. It looks at the impact of divorce on a child through the eyes of a grandparent.
The book is filled with illustrations of baby birds. At the beginning of the book, they are cosy in their nests but they become caught in a storm. The story represents how children can go from a safe, loving environment to one which is a bit rocky, but reaffirms the message that a family is more than a mum and dad and that there are plenty of people - including their grandparents - who will look after them.
Author Patricia Friedberg was inspired to write the book after one of her daughters went through a divorce and she wrote a letter to her grandchild to let her know that she would be there for her.
