My parents have a wonderful marriage, says Prince Andrew

The Queen and Prince Phillip have a very strong and happy marriage that is the envy of their son Prince Andrew.

The 52-year-old royal has revealed that his biggest regret in life is not having a relationship to match that of his parents, who will be celebrating their diamond anniversary next week.

His comments came during a programme to celebrate their romantic achievement, due to air tonight (Friday, November 16th) on ITV1.

Andrew married Sarah Ferguson in 1986 and the couple have two daughters. However, they divorced in 1992 and it seems this failed marriage is one of his biggest regrets.

"I think it's through partnership, discipline, a commitment to each other. A view - a slightly old fashioned view now - that marriage ... was something that was done with the sole intention of being together for the rest of one's life," said the prince.

"Compromises have to be met, life has to continue and there has to be an element of discipline. That's a wonderful thing to say ... sadly I haven't been able to live up to that as much as my parents."

The Queen: 60 Years of Marriage will be screened at 8.30pm.
