Divorce is very often a difficult and painful process, and one which should not be taken lightly. But there are rare occasions when it can be something to laugh about, particularly when the 'spouse' being divorced is rather unusual.

Take, for instance, the group of people from Madison, Wisconsin, who tonight (Tuesday) will be divorcing not their estranged husbands or wives, but their cars. The six divorcees will be separated from their vehicles forever, in a ceremony due to take place in front of the town's Orpheum Theatre, the Capital Times reports.

Each of the divorces will be officiated by the Community Car service, an eco-friendly programme that aims to save local residents reduce both the environmental and the monetary cost of owning a car. The divorces - which are all said to be amicable - will be signed in front of a 'judge' to make them official.

Community Car executive director Amanda White revealed that the divorcees, including an estate agent, will then have to use alternative methods of transportation. She told the paper: "We want to raise awareness to drive less and have fewer vehicles ? the six will make a final break from their cars."ADNFCR-988-ID-18191500-ADNFCR
