Marital message in a bottle

A couple who tied the knot on a beach in the US sent a message in a bottle that eventually reached another couple who had also wed on exactly the same date - 28 years earlier.

Melody Kloska and Matt Behrs have been together for five years but doubted whether or not they should become husband and wife as they both have several failed marriages behind them.

However, they decided to take the plunge and exchanged vows on August 18th this year on the beach at Lake Michigan. After their ceremony, they released a bottle which contained their wedding vows into the lake. After a few weeks the bottle washed up on different part of the shore and was found by Fred and Lynnette Dubendorf, who said 'I do' on a beach on August 18th, 1979.

Mr and Mrs Behrs have taken the Dubendorf's discovery as a sign that their union was destined to happen and that their reasons for getting married again were right, the Associated Press reports.

"It was meant to be," Mrs Behrs said. "This was a sign to me."

Mrs Dubendorf added: "I opened [the bottle] and read it and said, 'Oh, this is pretty cool, it's somebody's wedding vows'.

"I thought, 'Wow, how funny, we were married on the beach, too, and on the same day'."
