Sir Paul McCartney has spoken about his divorce from estranged wife heather Mills, and revealed that he wants the split to be amicable for the sake of the couple's three-year-old daughter Beatrice.
The Beatles legend married former model and animal rights campaigner Mills in 2002, but after just four years of marriage the pair separated in May 2006 and in July of that year the singer filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences".
McCartney said: "It's a sad thing to have happened and it's nothing that anyone wanted. I'm not the only person in the world who's going through or has been through this kind of thing. I look for an optimistic conclusion. I'm being positive about it."
In a recent interview with US news programme Good Morning America, the 64-year-old performer revealed that the process was very difficult but that he was doing his best to concentrate on his future, rather than dwell on his past.
"It's very tough, you know, going through a separation. But I'm just trying to keep my dignity, trying to just move forward and not talk about it in interviews really," he said.
McCartney's 21st solo album, Memory Almost Full, was released on Monday (June 4th).
