One of Korea's most well-known couples have divorced after 26 years of marriage.
Lee Young-ha, 57, and his 48-year-old former spouse Sun woo Eun-Sook, both actors, have said that it was a mutual decision to end their relationship and although no precise reason for their marital separation was given it was indicated that they both wanted more freedom.
It is thought that the couple will remain on friendly terms despite no longer being married. They have two children together, Lee Sang-won, who is also an actor, and a younger son who is currently serving his military service.
Speaking to the Korea Times, Young-ha said: "When a married couple live together for a long time, there are times when you become sceptical about certain things."
In a recent interview, Eun-Sook commented: "We didn't decide to divorce because of a certain or specific incident. As we grew older our feelings for each other changed, so we thought it would be better to give each other freedom," english.chosun.com reports.
Young-ha and Eun-Sook got married in 1981, during which time they were both experiencing high levels of professional success.
They are both well-known for playing parent-figure roles on Korean television programmes. Lee currently appears on the drama Golden Era of Daughter in Law while Sunwoo is currently starring in Kimchi Cheese Smile.
