The former husband of Jimmy Choo magnate Tamara Mellon has been cleared of attempting to spy on her by hacking into her computer.
Matthew Mellon had been accused of hiring an investigation agency to send emails to Ms Mellon's PC which contained a Trojan virus. It was thought that the Active Investigation Services (AIS) had attempted to install to install the spy program so that he would be able to gain an insight into her financial affairs.
However, Southwark Crown Court ruled that Mr Mellon, heir to a billion pound fortune, was not guilty of conspiring to pry into his ex-wife's business between July 1st 2004 and February 4th 2005. Following the verdict, he said: "I am relieved it is all over."
Ms Mellon, who transformed Jimmy Choo into a £185 million fashion empire, was also pleased that the case was over. Elizabeth Robertson, her solicitor, said: "Matthew Mellon remains a good friend and is, of course, the father to Tamara's daughter. Tamara is therefore delighted by the jury's verdict today."
The couple were married for five years from 2000 to 2005. They have one daughter together, called Araminta.
