Gest and Minnelli finalise divorce

David Gest and Liza Minnelli will finalise their divorce this week.

The 53-year-old music producer and the legendary singer separated in July 2003 after less than 18 months of marriage.

Speaking to OK! magazine, Gest revealed that a New York judge will grant an official divorce for the couple this week.

He said of Minnelli: "I only wish her well. I have no bad feelings any more, we're divorced as of this week.

"I'm really happy and content now and I only wish her those same feelings."

In October 2003, Gest accused his wife of physically abusing him during their relationship and filed a $10 million (£5.12 million) lawsuit against her.

The Cabaret star, 61, responded with a $2 million (£1.02 million) lawsuit of her own, accusing Gest of stealing from her.

The couple wed in a lavish ceremony in New York City in March 2002, with 17 bridesmaids including Mia Farrow, Chaka Khan and Janet Leigh. Elizabeth Taylor was Matron of Honour, while Michael Jackson was best man.
