The 2005 remake of the classic Michael Caine movie Alfie may not have been a patch on the original, and faced a lot of criticism from movie buffs and cinema-goers alike, but that doesn't bother actor Jude Law.
The 34-year-old is pleased with the film despite its lack of success at the box office because the money he earned from it helped to pay for his divorce from Sadie Frost.
In an interview with Empire magazine, Law revealed that he believes the remake didn't work because it is a "film of its time" and that it did not translate at all well into modern society.
He said: "It proved that the film was more a film of its time and it didn't work now. But there's no point playing safe all the time.
"And Alfie paid me more money than any other film's ever paid. You know, paid for my divorce!"
Law was married to Frost from September 1997 to October 2003. They have three children together; sons Rafferty and Rudy and daughter Iris. Negotiations for their divorce settlement took nearly two years and it is thought that Frost was allowed to keep the couple's £2 million London home, was given a £4 million lump sum and then £15,000 a month thereafter.
