Enrique speaks of marriage and divorce

Enrique Iglesias, the pop star son of Julio, has sparked huge confusion by talking of a potential marriage to and divorce from tennis player Anna Kournikova.

The 32-year-old singer told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that he had secretly married his beau before divorcing in recent months.

"We're divorced. I am single now, but that's okay," he is reported as saying. "I don't mind being alone."

The pair have been together for five years and this period has been punctuated by persistent rumours that they have secretly married.

A friend of the Russian tennis player and model has now told People magazine that her boyfriend was simply joking, insisting: "They are still together."

Enrique has previously told People magazine that Kournikova has been the only serious girlfriend he has had. He remained cryptic, however, as to the true nature of their relationship, suggesting that he remains unsure about their future.

"The only thing I can say is that, in my opinion, Anna, whether we are together or not, would be an ideal mother," he said.

Cynics may well argue that the latest escapade is something of a publicity stunt, with Enrique's new album released on June 12th.
