Prince Joachim of Denmark is to marry his long-term girlfriend Marie Cavallier, the royal court has announced.
The happy news was revealed via a statement on Wednesday, October 3rd and the couple spoke of their wedding plans at a televised news conference.
"Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark and His Royal Highness the Prince Consort are pleased to announce the engagement of their son, His Royal Highness Prince Joachim to Miss Marie Cavallier," the statement read.
Prince Joachim is due to exchange vows with Ms Cavallier in spring next year. He was previously married to Hong Kong-born Princess Alexandra, with whom he has two children, but the couple divorced in 2005. It was the first marital separation to occur within the family, Europe's oldest monarchy, for almost 160 years.
Speaking at the news conference, Prince Joachim said: "It is a very big and happy day in our lives," while his bride-to-be added that she is "very, very happy".
"I am looking forward to come to this country and become a Danish princess," she said.
