Heather Mills is being sued by her former divorce lawyers amid claims that she has failed to pay legal bills accrued during her continuing divorce battle with Sir Paul McCartney.
Mills, 39, was represented by Mishcon de Reya for an 18-month period following her separation from former Beatle McCartney and is said to have run up a bill worth £2.2 million, which she has yet to pay.
According to the Daily Mail, the firm is set to recover the funds by issuing a High Court writ. It is thought that the money will be taken from Mills' financial settlement once the divorce is finalised.
It is thought that the firm is worried about the size of her settlement and that it will not see its money as the animal rights activist could use it to cover her other debts instead.
A source told the paper: "Heather has been told she has to make steps to clear the debt. She has been told that a writ is as good as on its way. Mishcon is acting as any business that is concerned about recovering a bad debt would.
"The firm worked tirelessly in difficult circumstances for Heather and it is now concerned it may not get its money. Mishcon is concerned that Heather could get a nominal settlement of a few million pounds. But because she has other debts to clear, there is a worry that Mishcon will be at the back of the queue."
