A woman who was wrongly accused of killing two of her children has filed for a divorce from her husband of 20 years.

Angela Cannings, 44, is seeking a marital separation from her husband Terry and wants full custody of their 11-year-old daughter Jade, who currently lives with her father in Cornwall.

According to the Daily Mail, Mrs Cannings' husband does not want to go through with the divorce and had hoped that the couple could be reconciled.

Speaking to the newspaper, he said that their relationship had deteriorated as a result of the ensuing pressures caused by his estranged wife's court case.

Mr Cannings explained: "I am disappointed we are getting divorced because I always hoped there was a chance we might be able to rebuild our family after everything we've been through.

"I feel sorry for Angela, but I don't know why she is doing this to me and Jade. Jade has always lived with me and understandably she still has issues with her mum. She is adamant she wants to stay here with me."

Mrs Cannings was jailed in April 2002 for the deaths of her seven-week-old son Jason in 1991 and 18-week-old Matthew in 1999. She was freed in December 2003 after it was found that her children had died as a result of cot death.
