Divorce for Sean Penn

Hollywood stars Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn are to get a divorce after 11 years of marriage.

The couple met while filming State of Grace in 1990 and wed in 1996. They have two teenage children together. Wright Penn filed for divorce on Friday, December 21st at the Marin County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences.

It is thought that she and her estranged spouse are seeking joint custody of their youngsters.

A representative for Penn confirmed news of the demise of his second marriage to US publication People magazine.

The Oscar-winning actor was previously married to pop legend Madonna, from 1985 to 1989.

Penn, 47, has appeared in several hit films including Mystic River, Dead Man Walking, I Am Sam and 21 Grams. His soon-to-be ex-wife has also carved out a successful movie career, including appearances in such films as Forest Gump, Beowulf and Breaking and Entering.
