Divorce for Australian singer

Natalie Imbruglia is to divorce her husband Daniel Johns after four years of marriage.

The Australian singer and her estranged spouse have decided to end their marriage as a result of "career demands" and explained that they did not make their mutual decision lightly.

Imbruglia, 32, is largely based in the UK while Johns, frontman with the band Silverchair, spends the majority of his time in Australia. The couple have asserted that they are to remain friends despite their marital split.

In a joint statement, they said: "While we are very sad that our marriage has ended, we want to make it clear that our parting is amicable and we remain friends. This mutual decision has not been taken lightly or quickly.

"However, our career demands and our lives in different parts of the world have brought us to the point where unfortunately this difficult decision was necessary for both of us. We have simply grown apart through not being able to spend enough time together."

Imbruglia, who launched her career on the soap Neighbours, has had a string of hits including Torn, That Day, Wrong Impression and Shiver. She has also appeared on the big screen in the film Johnny English alongside Rowan Atkinson.
