Divorce fair proves unpopular

An event billed as the world's first divorce fair did not go as successfully as organisers had hoped, media reports suggest

An event billed as the world's first divorce fair did not go as successfully as organisers had hoped, media reports suggest.

New Beginnings was held yesterday (Sunday, October 29th) in Austrian capital city Vienna, which was rather apt given that the divorce rate in the European country is 50 per cent.

However, it seems that relatively few people decided to turn out for the fair which showcased the helpful wares of a variety of companies, from estate agents for those looking to buy a new pad following a marital separation to hairdressers for divorcees after a fresh new look.

According to the International Herald Tribune, exhibitors weren't exactly overwhelmed with people desperate for advice. Quite the opposite in fact, with just "a few dozen" persons making their way around the stalls. It seems that the largest group of visitors at the event was made up of intrigued journalists. And they may have been scaring would-be-divorcees away.

Berhard Spernern, who is soon to be divorced, told the paper that there were "too many cameras". He added: "I think that's part of the problem - a lot of people don't want to be seen or be photographed here."
