New research suggests that the chances of marriage or cohabitation may be lower among those who have previously gone through a divorce.
A Veni-sponsored study for Dutch researcher Anne-Rigt Poortman as reported by Science Daily reached the conclusion, after focussing on the negative impact of previous experiences on people's future behaviour in relationships.
The study also revealed that women's chances of forming a new, successful relationship that could lead to a second marriage were lower than that experienced by men who have gone through a divorce or separation.
Ms Poortman's study reportedly highlighted the influence of the role of children from a previous relationship, in addition to stating that people who have been through a divorce "have a stronger preference for less committed types or relationships such as living-apart-together relationships or unmarried cohabitation".
Men and women who have experienced a divorce also tend to be attracted to a new partner without a relationship history, the article notes.
