A local news website based in the States has produced a list of tips to help those who are re-entering the dating world after a divorce or separation.

According to Insidebayarea.com, a recent slew of divorce-related TV programmes in the US, such as The Starter Wife and Ex-Wives Club, seem to acknowledge the fact that divorce affects millions of people in the country every year (23 million couples filed for divorce in 2005). As such, the site felt inspired to enlist the help of dating and relationship experts Bill Lamb and Susan Shapiro to compile a list of the top ten dating dos for newly single people.

One of the most important things to remember is that dating after divorce should not be rushed. According to Ms Shapiro, you are in danger of any unresolved marital problems resurfacing in a new relationship.

Another factor to consider is where you will be looking for a new partner. It is best not to limit yourself to one arena, such as pubs and clubs, or dating sites, and to branch out by enrolling in a new class or society to help meet different, hopefully like-minded people.

The experts also write that it can be worthwhile updating the way you dress, and being sure to make friends as well as look for a new man or woman, as after a divorce is it nice to have a network of support.
