A couple from Andover who used to run one of the town's best-loved shops have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Marcus Carter and his wife Mary met when they were teenagers and married on November 23rd, 1942. They had trouble organising their big day as Mr Carter was a radio mechanic in the army and often had to leave on short notice.
They enjoyed a lovely service in St Peter's Church in Smannell and had six blissful weeks to enjoy being man and wife before he was called up for service in North Africa for three years, thisishampshire.net reports.
The couple were eventually reunited and together they ran the Shaw and Son grocery shop in Andover High Street, which had previously been run by Mr Carter's Father. They were at the helm of the store until it closed in 1989.
Mr and Mrs Carter celebrated their anniversary with a tea party for 50 family members and friends, which was a joint party for Mrs Carter's 90th birthday.
Speaking to the local portal, she said: "We have always been busy with the shop and when we ran Carlin's health shop, so we never had time for disagreements. We've had a lovely time together."
