Welsh singer Cerys Matthews and her husband Seth Riddle have divorced after four years of marriage.
The former lead singer of popular 90s band Catatonia has returned to her native Pembrokeshire from Nashville, Tennesee where she had lived with American musician Riddle and their two children since 2002.
Rumours had begun circulating that Matthews had split from her husband after she began spending a lot of time working in Wales but she has not publicly spoken about her marital separation until now.
She finally confirmed that she and Riddle had obtained a divorce after being asked whether he would be joining her and their children in Wales, the Independent on Sunday reports.
She said: "Well, I am now divorced - I've not done an interview about it. What am I meant to say?
"It's a long way from Pembrokeshire to Nashville. The pull for me was my children and the freedom they have here.
"In Nashville I was always an immigrant with two young children. I really did love it, I was at home there as an adult. I would have stayed, but I didn't feel ready for my children not to have the same background as me."
Matthews releases her new album, a Welsh language recording called Anwen today (Monday, October 15th). Speaking about the album, she said: "I did it for the love of the language, the sounds of the language."
