Bruni 'not married yet' to French president

Italian model Carla Bruni has put an end to speculation that she has already married the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy.

Bruni told the French newspaper Liberation that she would not be accompanying her partner on a state visit to India later this week due to the couple not being married yet.

However, she also stated that a wedding was a strong possibility in the near future, telling the publication that "it is in our plans."

"I cannot take part in an official trip with the President," she added. "Also for health reasons it is not good."

Sarkozy announced the end of his second marriage, to wife Cecilia, last October, with media reports of his relationship to Bruni first appearing in December.

However, it was only earlier this month that the French premier referred to the relationship. "It's a serious matter, but the [wedding] date won't be fixed today," he said. "It is serious. You will find out when it happens."
