Attractiveness important for dating

Dating for divorced men and women can be difficult, particularly if they have not been in the dating game for a number of years and are unsure how best to approach the whole thing.

However, there are some useful sources of information available for anyone looking to make more sense of what can be a complicated issue, although rather predictably a new publication has concluded that looks are often everything when it comes to dating.

Psychologists Viren Swami and Adrian Furnham have launched a book in which they claim to have discovered exactly what it is that makes people attracted to each other.

Entitled the Psychology of Human Attraction, the book rather sadly explains that many people believe that outer beauty will often equate with inner beauty.

Mr Furnham told the Belfast Telegraph: "Study after study shows that people think that what is beautiful is good. It's a slightly shocking finding."

Among the authors' findings were that men with narrow waists and broad shoulders are found to be very attractive, while women with slender bodies are often thought of as most attractive.

However, Furnham and Swami did find that facial attractiveness is most pertinent for those looking for a new partner.
