Make your hair look thicker

Let’s face it ,the stress of getting divorced is enough to make anyone’s hair fall out but if you a chap worrying about losing your locks there are a number of ways that can help make your barnet look thicker and more luxuriant.

Washing
Washing hair does not cause it to fall out more quickly. In reality washing makes the hair look thicker because dirty, greasy hair tends to lie flat and look gappy.

Ban the comb
Too much combing or brushing can make thin hair look flat and limp. Use your fingers to add volume and texture.

Thickening agents
Thickening shampoos, conditioners and sprays contain polymers that plump up hair shafts thereby making them look up to 20% fuller. Use regularly.

Stop smoking
An American study suggests that smoking increases the levels of hormones that can trigger hair loss.  It also constricts the blood vessels to the scalp thereby starving your hair of nutrients that help it to grow.

Blowing in the wind
Give fine hair more volume by blow drying but be careful to keep the heat down or you could end up frying your hair making it brittle and causing a bigger problem than you started with.

Styling products
Don’t use gels or heavy waxes on fine or thinning hair as they will weigh it down making it look thin and flat.  The most effective styling product for giving volume is mousse along with sprays that give hair root lift.

Soya good for you
Recent research shows that a molecule produced in the intestine when soya is digested could halt hair loss by blocking the effect of the hormone that triggers balding.  It could be worth investigating and is better than some of the weirder ways of ‘curing’ alopecia such as standing on your head as recommended by Chinese and Indian mystics or rubbing in pigeon droppings.

Unless you yearn to be a bleached blonde surf dude then allowing your hair to bake in the sun is not a good idea.  Sunburn makes hair fragile and brittle and causes the scalp to produce a compound that can cause hair follicles to change from a growth phase to one where it sheds.

Either wear a hat or stay out of the sun although there are products available to rub into your scalp and hair that will give some protection.

Be gentle
Human hair is three times as fragile when wet and rough towel drying or combing can damage it causing it to snap.  Let hair dry naturally and use fingers to style it and give more texture.

Different style?
It is far better and more flattering to have thinning hair cut into a short style. This will make hair look denser and draw attention away from your thinning locks onto your face
