About Us

dreamstime_1575548.jpgNick Webbe
Nick was born over half a century ago on the 383rd anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare after one of the coldest winters on record. He arrived in the bleak post World War II period of food rationing, fuel shortages and Europe in ruins. It was a desolate land but things got better.

After an independent education in Brighton (in the days of the Mods and Rockers and before it became the coolest place this side of Hoxton) Nick headed for London to study for a business degree and later an MBA. The world of advertising beckoned first to be followed by photography, property development, marriage and business consultancy – although not in that order. The marriage lasted the longest but eventually and sadly that too came to an end. However, without his divorce this website would not have been conceived, so thanks must go to Nick’s former wife as well as to his wonderful children for their love and support while making this idea a reality.

Nick’s most favourite things are: Victorian houses, Led Zeppelin, red wine with a well designed label on offer at no more than £3.99, medieval cathedrals, black and white photography and the novels of John Updike.

Alice Taylor dreamstime_2832345.jpg
Born on the 352nd anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, which may account for her somewhat fiery and occasionally explosive nature, Alice was brought up in the Welsh valleys in the days when Wales ruled the world in rugby, strong men still worked down the coal mines and sheep roamed the streets. She excelled at grammar school particularly in English and history, going on to study for a degree in Fine Art in Cardiff during the seventies - decade of long hair, bad music and Edward Heath. Marriage, twins, gardening and divorce followed over the next twenty years.

Alice’s great interest is food – reading about it, shopping for it, cooking it, and eating it. She has over a thousand books about food and cooking, a great sense of humour and lots of big bookshelves. Alice also cooks better than Gordon Ramsay. (Sorry Mr Ramsay but the truth will out). This obsession with all things culinary led her to work for a major cookware manufacturer and as a retail manager for a well known chain of cookshops.

Amongst her favourite things Alice lists: vodka, organic vegetables, men in cricketing whites, KitchenAid food mixers, her old cat Bear, free range chickens, and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall.
